Dan Leslie Cornwell Our kind, loving father passed from this life to the next on Thursday, March 2, 2017, after living a life that was an example to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife and our mother, Neola Browning Cornwell, his parents, Jennings and Wilma Cornwell and an infant sister. He is survived by his three children, Diane (Jim) Corns of Ceredo, WV, Danny (Lisa) Cornwell of Kenova, and William (Bill) Cornwell also of Kenova. He also has four grandchildren, Mandy (Craig) Brumfield, Brian Cornwell, Kerri (Mike) Smith, and Whitney (Evan) Adkins. He was adored by his great grandchildren, Colten, Tre', Chloe, Emma, Kohde, Kiki, Aiden, Corbin, Kohen, Austin and Chad. He is also survived by his twin sister and brother, Jeanette Dorsey and Jennings (Violet) Cornwell. He served in WW II in the US Navy and was a member of American Legion Post 93 of Kenova whose military Honor Guard will conduct graveside rites. In 1959 & 1960, he served as Mayor of Kenova. Daddy was retired from a job he loved with the N & W Railroad. He and mother enjoyed many years of retirement following Marshall University teams. He began his love of Marshall when he ushered at games as a 14 year old Boy Scout. He remained faithful as a season ticket holder through the current 2017 season. He spent his last hour on the earth, listening to the Herd game, and being sad for the loss. Our family has been assisted during the last two months by the kind people of Hospice, nurse Sandy and his aide Trish; also thank you to sweet Deborah for her loving care during his final days. He was a member of Kenova United Methodist Church and was on the Cradle Role since two weeks of age. He also enjoyed singing in the Golden Chords Senior Choir. His Upper Room Sunday school class was very faithful with their visits, cards, calls and treats. One of his last fun days was his 90th birthday party, held on May 21, 2016. He said that was one of the best days of his life and he shared it with many friends, family and church family. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at the Kenova United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 6th at the church with Pastor Jim Richards officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.
