Betty Delois Money Spry

Betty Delois Money Spry, 81, of Kenova, WV went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 16, 2014. Betty was born February 1, 1933 in Kenova, WV a daughter of the late William Thomas and Bertha Wyatt Money. She spent many years as an educator for the Wayne County Board of Education. She was a teacher at Kenova Grade School, an Assistant Principal at Buffalo Elementary and a Principal at Ferndale Grade School. She was married to the late Leo “Tubby” Spry for 57 years and raised her family in the city she loved. Betty believed in being active in her hometown and was elected to her first term as Councilwoman in 1999 and served until 2003. She was re-elected in 2011 and was presently serving her second term as Councilwoman for the City of Kenova. Betty was a member of the Marcum Chapter #61 OES for over 50 years. As faithful as she was to her family and community, she was also a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Kenova. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by a son, Donald Leo Spry; a grandson, Donald Leo Spry II and one brother, William Thomas Money, Jr. She is survived by her beloved children, a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia (Larry) Marshall of Lloyd, KY and a son and daughter-in-law, James William “Jim” (Donna Ruff) Spry; a daughter-in-law, Frances McComas Spry; all of Kenova; grandchildren, Jamie Dawn Bash (Christopher) Brown, Mikka Leann Bash (Ray Jordan), Staci Rene Spry (Brian) Watts, James William “Jimmie” Spry, II (Jess Ellis), Stephanie Ann Spry (Calvin Edwards) and Donald Patrick Spry; great grandchildren, Christopher Kyler Brown, Caiden Jett Jordan, Kayleb Michael Jordan, Zachary Brian Watts, Evan Patrick Watts, Brody Peyton Watts, and Jaelyn Dawn Ellis Spry; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald Lee (Joane) Money of Kenova; four sisters-in-law, Ola Marie Browning Money of Paintsville, KY, Irene (Gilbert) Dingess, Jean (Bill) Robertson and Donna Jean May and one brother-in-law, Reece (Betty) Spry. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2014 at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Kenova with Pastor Steve Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.
