Garry P. Adkins Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Garry P. Adkins, 76, of Kenova, WV, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and child of God went home to Heaven on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 following an extended illness. He was born January 21, 1939 in Wayne County, WV a son of the late William Everett and Esta Marie Kirk Adkins. Garry retired from CSX where he had been a cost accountant. He was a big fan of Marshall University athletics, New York Yankee baseball and New England Patriots football. As much as he loved his favorite sports teams there was nothing more important to Garry than Jesus Christ. He loved Jesus and enjoyed sharing Him with others. He was a member of the Kenova United Methodist Church and wanted to be able to return to church to worship with his church family. He was also an ordained minister with the Federation of Ministers and Churches International. Garry loved his family. He is survived by the love of his life, Annetta Gale Lowe Adkins with whom he had shared 51 years of life. He was the proud father of two beloved children, his daughter, Wendy Fisher and her husband Rodney, and their two children John Chase Fisher and Amy Grace Fisher all of Hurricane, WV; his son, Garry P. Adkins II and his wife, Susan of Mobile, Alabama; one sister, Neltha Gibson and her husband, Jim of Spring Hill, TN; one brother, Lat “Gerald” Adkins of Catlettsburg, KY and several beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a sister, Brookie Donahoe and a brother, Bill Adkins. The family would like to express a special love to close family friends, Carol Rowe and Betty Collins. The family also thanks Rhonda Clovis from the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House for the extraordinary care she provided. The visitation will be held 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. Saturday July 4, 2015 at Kenova United Methodist Church. Funeral services will begin immediately following the visitation at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jim Richards officiating and Pastor Chuck Lawrence assisting. Interment will follow in Spring Valley Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the KUMC Bereavement Fund, 503 15th St. Kenova, WV 25530.
