Opal Bellomy Sprague

OPAL BELLOMY SPRAGUE, 91, passed away Monday, September 15, 2014 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington. She was born in Hubbardstown, W.Va., the 27th of June, 1923, the daughter of Alonzo and Cora McKee Bellomy and stepmother, Myrtle Copley Bellomy. She was a member of the Bellomy Chapel United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her sisters, Lona Ellis, Nellie Meredith, and Lotus Rickman; her brothers, Walter Bellomy and Clarence Bellomy; her beloved son, Joe Hurley; her adored great-granddaughter, Faith Ann Prince; and her husbands, James Webb, Everett Hurley, and Eugene Sprague. Opal loved her children above all earthly treasures. Raising them by herself, she taught them to love and respect each other. She demonstrated to them a strong faith in God, a strong work ethic, and a respect for authority. She was so proud that her children were educators, construction and mechanical workers, law enforcement officer and minister, electrician, and housewife and arts and crafts specialist. Survivors are: Roy Webb of South Point, Ohio; Lona (Henderson) Adkins of Kenova; Oscar (Tessa) Hatten of Ceredo; Kennith (Patty) Acord of Kenova; Keith (Freda) Chadwick of Watauga, TX; and a very special daughter-in-law, Myra Hurley of Kenova. Opal is also survived by a large extended family that loved and honored her with their visits; some adopted her as their mom and younger ones as their granny. She loved them all in return. Opal's legacy is the accomplishments and contributions to society of her children, ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to express heart-felt appreciation to Cabell County E.M.S., Dr. Gary Cremeans, Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice in Huntington, and the staff and nurses from Cabell Huntington Hospital E.R., 2nd Floor East Tower Post-Surgical Unit, Intermediate Care and Rehabilitation Unit, and in-home caregivers. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2014 at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Keith Chadwick and Wally Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Community Chapel Church Cemetery, Big Hurricane Creek Road, Prichard, W.Va.
