Rexford Mellie McCormick

Rexford Mellie McCormick, 90, of Huntington, WV. formerly of Kenova passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013 at the Woodlands Retirement Community. Rex was born July 2, 1923 in Lincoln County. He was one of eleven children born to the late Mellie Homer and Effie McClure McCormick. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. Rex was a salesman having worked in the auto industry and real estate. He was general manager of several dealerships, including Gallipolis Motors. He was owner of Rex McCormick Chevrolet in Kenova. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kenova and the C-K Rotary Club. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two wives Jeane Eleanor Murray McCormick and Agnes Wanamacher McCormick and one son Jerry Lee McCormick. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law Judith McCormick Burks (Michael) of West Chester, Ohio; one son John Michael McCormick of Kenova; four step-children; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and a special friend Lois Atkinson. Memorial services will be conducted 10:30 A.M. Thursday December 12, 2013 at Rollins Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Willis officiating. Internment will follow at 2:00 P.M. at Mound Hill Cemetery in Gallipolis, Ohio. There will be no visitation. Following the graveside services there will be a celebration of life from 2:30-4:30 P.M. at the Grace Methodist Church (Cedar St. Entrance).
