Frank Spotswood Olmstead

FRANK SPOTSWOOD OLMSTEAD, 88 of Kenova, W.Va., went to be with his Lord on Saturday, August 20, 2016. He was a devoted husband, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and child of God. Frank was born in Virginia on August 21, 1927, a son of the late Frank Phillip and Irene Watts Olmstead. He was a graduate of Wayne High School. Frank was a member of Buena Vista Masonic Lodge #60 Whites Creek. he was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served his country at the end of WWII. Frank was a Kentucky Colonel; a member of Beni Kedem of Charleston, W.Va., and Commandry #9. He was an iron worker for more than 69 years and was the last charter member of Ironworkers Local #769 of Ashland, Ky., Frank was a member of the Antique Car Club. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Elinor Jones Olmstead, to whom he was married for 52 years. He is survived by his wife Margaret "Margie" Lou O'Brian Olmstead; two daughters and sons-in-law, Camille Ann and Michael Dean and Prudence C. and Samuel T. Colvin; three grandchildren, John Lee Jarvis II and his wife Jessica, 1st Lieutenant Andrew B. Colvin and 1st Lieutenant Samuel F. Colvin; two great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Lilia Jarvis and step-grandchildren Todd Dean and Tony and Alissa Dean and family. Frank was a member of Kenova United Methodist Church since 1957 with more than 59 years of service including Chairman of the Administrative Board, the Council on Ministries and the Finance Committee. He also served as the church Treasurer and as a member of the Building Committee. He attended the Upper Room Sunday School Class. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 23, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kenova United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at the church with Pastor Jim Richards officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.
